ACE is ten

Ateliers du Cinéma Européen aka ACE is celebrating a decade in business in style at Paris Cinéma with the screening of 14 of its recent productions, made with support from the EU’s Media Programme.

Since its inception in 1993, 130 independent European producers from 17 countries have benefitted from the ACE programme whose main tasks include advice about European feature film projects and facilitating European co-productions. The efficiency of this system has resulted in a number of ambitious films, as demonstrated by the ACE retrospective on in Paris from 2-15 July. The programme includes the 1996 and 2002 best foreign film Oscar winners : Dutch-UK co-production, Antonia and her daughters by Marleen Gorris and the Franco/British/ Belgian/Slovenian/Italian co-production of Danis Tanovic’s No Man’s Land [+see also:

. The Parisian programme also includes Peter Mullan’s 2002 Golden Lion-winning The Magdalene Sisters [+see also:

, Ferzan Ozpetek’s 1999 Harem Suaré, Andreas Dresen’s 2001 Silver Bear-winning Grill Point [+see also:

, Alain Berliner’s best foreign film Golden Globe winner Ma vie en rose , Jasmin Dizdar’s Beautiful People (Un Certain Regard 1999) and Dagur Kari’s Noi the Albino.
Numerous producers, like Holland’s Hans de Wolf, France’s Philippe Martin (Les Film Pelleas), Alain Rozanès (ADR Productions), Cedomir Kolar (Noé Productions), Ireland’s Ed Guiney, the UK’s Judy Counihan, Cat Villers and Ben Woolford from Tall Stories and Iceland’s Skuli Malmquist (Zik Zak Filmworks) travelled to Paris to present their films in person. ACE members were also well represented in the International Meetings section and the Paris Cinéma premieres by Italy’s Tilde Corsi (R&C Produzioni), Belgian Diane Elbaum’s Entre Chien et Loup, England’s Sol Gatti Pascal from The Bureau and France’s Carole Scotta from Haut et Court.
