The period of prosperity for Polish cinemas and domestic films continued in 2017, as it was the fourth year in a row to witness considerable growth in audience numbers. Here are just a few figures to prove it: 40.4 million tickets were sold in 2014; in 2015, this rose to 44.7 million, while in 2016 it went up to 52.1 million admissions. Last year, it peaked at 56.5 million.

Also, 2017 was the second consecutive year to see Polish films occupying the top two spots in the yearly box-office chart. The Christmas dramedy Letters to Santa 3 [+see also:

 by Tomasz Konecki won the gold medal, with an impressive 2.98 million admissions, while the first runner-up was Patryk Vega’s medical thriller-drama Botoxx [+see also:

, which sold 2.31 million tickets. These two types of film, a romantic comedy and a specific blend of genres prepared and helmed by Vega, are particularly favoured by the local audience. In 2016, Vega’s Pitbull. Dangerous Women [+see also:

was the most popular film of the year, with 2.79 million admissions, while Mitja Okorn’s rom-com Planet Single [+see also:

came in second, with an audience of 1.96 million viewers.

In 2018, the box-office figures look set to grow even further, thanks to the release of Vega’s next film, Mafia Women (Kobiety Mafii), the latest instalment in the Pitbull franchise, Pitbull: Last Dog [+see also:
