New head of Film & TV School

British film producer Nik Powell is the new director of the UK National Film & TV School, the fourth since the institution was founded in 1971. He will take up his new posting on 29 September.
Powell is one of the most highly respected industry operators and holds a number of important and influential positions like non-executive chairman of the European Film Academy, a member of the British Screen Advisory Council, BAFTA, the American Academy (AMPAS), on the board of the Northern Ireland Film & TV Commission and a member of the European Producers’ Club. He is also a patron of the Script Factory, the New Producers’ Alliance and has served on the juries of various major festivals, like Sundance, EFA and this year’s forthcoming Locarno (6-16 Aug).
During his tenet, Powell, will stop actively producing films through his slate, Scala Productions, although he will executive produce projects that have already been green-lighted .
”I am committed to making the National Film and Television School the centre of excellence for the film and television industries,” he said.
