Film attendance up

by

2003 may well end up setting a new film attendance record in the Netherlands, according to the Dutch Film Federation (DFF). The first six months of the year saw a 10% increase with respect to 2002.
The DFF attributed this positive result to a number of US blockbusters like Die Another Day, Matrix Reloaded and Terminator 3. July attendance saw a slight drop, nothing unusual for the summer, but given the imminent release of tentpole titles like Matrix 3 and Lord of the Rings 3 this is likely to improve.
The success was also due to a number of strong domestic productions that made it into the Top 20 as well as the Top 10, like De Tweeling by Ben Somboggart, Pietje Bell by Maria Peters and Van God Los by Pieter Kuijpers.
