film profile] by Margarethe Von Trotta will have its world premiere at the forthcoming Venice Film Festival (August 27-September 6) and will then screen in Toronto (4-13 September). Rosenstraße is a dramatic tale of frienship and solidarity and is based on the revolt staged in 1943 by German women married to German Jews in order to save the men from certain death in the Nazi concentration camps.
Von Trotta’s filmography includes titles like Die Bleierne Zeit about the Baader-Meinhoff gang and Rosa Luxemburg and the director has always shown particular interest in women’s stories.
As is her habit, Von Trotta also co-wrote the screenplay of Rosenstraße with Pamela Katz, while the cast is headed by Maria Schrader, Katja Riemann, Jürgen Vogel and Martin Feifel.
The film was produced by Markus Zimmer for Tele-München, the Hamburg Letterbox Studio and Get Reel Productions with financial support from the FFF-Bavaria. Rosenstraße is scheduled for a domestic release on 18 September by courtesy of Concorde Film.
