Luca Argentero to play Leonardo da Vinci

A new art film for Sky: following the release of Caravaggio: The Soul and the Blood [+see also:
film profile] (winner of Best Documentary at the Golden Globes - read the news here), the satellite TV channel is producing Amazing Leonardo (working title: Inside Leonardo) with Progetto Immagine, a film about the legendary Florentine artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of his death in May 1519.
Filming will commence in September, with Luca Argentero due to play Leonardo (recently seen in Hotel Gagarin [+see also:
film profile]). The film promises to guide its audience towards the discovery of a man, painter, scientist and inventor, choosing to look past previous stereotypes and focusing instead on a unique, engaging and fascinating journey into the mind of Leonardo, one of the most brilliant figures in the history of humanity, known to all for having painted the Mona Lisa.
Scientific advice has been entrusted to Pietro C. Marani, a History of Modern Art and Museology professor at Milan Polytechnic and the author of numerous publications on Leonardo. While the film’s artistic direction has been entrusted to Cosetta Lagani, already responsible for previous Sky art films, including Caravaggio: The Soul and the Blood and Michelangelo Infinito (soon to be released in Italian cinemas). The screenplay was written by Sara Mosetti and Marcello Olivieri in collaboration with Miriam Mosetti and Oliviero del Papa. Jesus Garces Lambert will be directing the film after also directing Caravaggio: The Soul and the Blood.
Shooting will take place in Florence, Vinci and the Tuscan countryside, Milan, Rome and France. Inside Leonardo will be released in Italian cinemas by Lucky Red in 2019 and on TV on Sky; it will then be distributed worldwide.
