Daniel Auteuil and the Dragon

- Out today on 220 Gallic screens, Rencontre avec le Dragon, a Medieval tale of fantasy and adventure directed by Hélène Angel and starring Sergi Lopez and Emmanuelle Devos

Diaphana, the French production slate behind Rencontre avec le Dragon, by Hélène Angel is making a major step forward today when it releases this Medieval fantasy starring Daniel Auteuil, Sergi Lopez and Emmanuelle Devos onto 220 French screens.
This is Devos second feature after her award winning directorial debut, Peau d’homme, coeur de bête, which won the Silver Leopard at Locarno in 1999. This time around the French director decided to set her in the Middle Ages, a little-explored era as far as Gallic production is concerned. The film is a winning mix of genres: western, fantasy and adventure that plays out in a beautiful mountain setting. Rencontre avec le Dragon is about one episode in the life of Guillaume de Montauban (Auteuil), a mercenary who was said to be immortal. The film was shot entirely on location and despite the beauty of the cinematography, it managed to divide the critics.
The €9.8m feature was produced by France 3 Cinéma, Gimages, Rhône-Alpes Cinéma and Luxembourg’s Samsa Film and the release was supported by a substantial marketing campaign. This title is Diaphana’s attempt to equal (if not better) the performance of Harry, un ami qui vous veut du bien by Dominik Moll, a title the Gallic slate distributed in the summer of 2000.
