New €99-Europe ensemble film
- Rolf Peter Kahl's brainchild is a film about the United States of Europe made by nine directors, each of whom focused on a European country
The dream of a united Europe is the common thread running through an ensemble film entitled Europe 99euro – films 2, presented in the "Filmmakers of the Present" on 8 August. Produced by the Oldenburg-based production slate, 99euro-film Gbr, the film features nine chapters about as many European capitals by nine directors. They were obliged to spend just €99. The film is the sequel to 99euro – films, screened to extraordinary success at the “Perspektive deutsches Kino” section of the 2002 Berlinale. The original was made by directors like Rolf Peter Kahl, who also came up with the idea for this project with producer, Torsten Neumann.
The other Germa-language directors who boarded the project are Benjamin Quabeck, whom audiences will remember for his 2001 domestic hit, Nicht bereuren (No Regrets) and Austria’s Stefano Wagner’s 1998 (Smoking Cuban Style).
