VENICE 2003 Jury

Monicelli is jury president

by

"I prefer the films that I could never have made myself. I certainly won’t favour comedy. I’d like to see films like the ones made by Wenders and Antonioni."
Veteran Italian film director Mario Monicelli was speaking about his appointment as jury president at the forthcoming 60th Venice Film Festival (27 Aug-6 Sept). His jury will have the task of assigning a total of 11 awards including the Golden Lion and the Jury Grand Prix – and there cannot be any ties.
The components of Monicelli’s jury are Italian actor Stefano Accorsi, French writer and director Pierre Jolivet, Chinese director Ann Hui, American producer Monty Montgomery, German director of photography Michael Ballhaus and Iberian actress Assumpta Serna, the star of Almodovar’s Matador.
The Controcorrente jury which, for the first time, will also have to assign the acting awards for the titles selected, is made up of French TV writer Laure Adler, American film expert Vito Amoruso, Taiwanese singer and actress Rene Liu, German actor Ulrich Tukur and Egyptian film critic Samir Farid.
