The Eurimages Co-production Development Award – awarded at the 21st edition of Cartoon Movie (5 to 7 March in Bordeaux) – went to Of Unwanted Things and People by David Súkup, Ivana Laučíková, Leon Vidmar and Agata Gorządek. Involving the Czech outfit Maur Film, the Slovak company Artichoke, the Slovenian company ZVVIKS and the Poles WJTeam/Likaon, the film uses puppets and stop-motion. The film is about a writer – a friendly older man with a beard and red glasses – who has children in later life. As they run around the house, he wonders: what if he dies before they grow up? Can he leave something to them? He starts writing about a man who finds a discarded book that can transport the reader back in time... About two boys who discover a hut that nobody wants, where imaginary monsters used to live... About two orphans and their strange aunt who turns into a cat when no one is watching... About a lonely man who knows how to fly and becomes king of the birds... Maybe his own children will learn something from these stories, all of which have one thing in common: they're all about the hidden value "Of Unwanted Things and People.”
