French sales agents unleash a flurry of new announcements at Cannes
by Fabien Lemercier
- CANNES 2019: The upcoming films by Kirill Serebrennikov, Albert Dupontel, Emmanuel Carrère and Leos Carax are proving highly lucrative for Charades, Gaumont, France TV Distribution and Kinology
Having previously been a partner on the Leto (The Summer) [+see also:

film profile] venture (in competition at Cannes last year), Charades (see the line-up news) will once again be involved (as an international sales agent and co-producer) in the next film by Russia’s Kirill Serebrennikov, Petrov’s Flu. This adaptation of an Alexey Salnikov novel will be produced by Moscow-based outfit Hype Film together with France’s Logical Pictures (plus Charades, of course) and Switzerland’s Bord Cadre.
Gaumont has kicked off pre-sales for Bye Bye Morons by Albert Dupontel (9 Month Stretch [+see also:
film profile], See You up There [+see also:
film profile]), which will begin shooting in the autumn, starring Belgium’s Virginie Efira (who will be gracing screens in the Cannes competition next week in Sibyl [+see also:
film profile]) as a woman who finds out that she only has a few weeks to live. Will she have time to pull out all the stops and find the child she abandoned when she was a teenager? Spurred on by this final shred of hope, but hindered by the authorities, she finally meets a civil servant (none other than Albert Dupontel) who may be able to help her in this risky quest. This suicidal civil servant does not intend to let anything slip… She is fighting to survive, while he is struggling to die… The movie will be staged by Manchester Films.
France TV Distribution is officially launching pre-sales for Between Two Worlds by Emmanuel Carrère (see the article), an adaptation of the autobiographical story by journalist Florence Aubenas, the shoot for which wrapped at the end of April. The picture is toplined by Juliette Binoche.
Lastly, Kinology (see the line-up news) has thrust Annette by Leos Carax (Holy Motors [+see also:
interview: Leos Carax
film profile]) back into the limelight. It is currently pre-selling the film (in conjunction with Logical Pictures), the shoot for which will get going in August after a lengthy period in development. The lead roles in this English-language musical comedy are played by Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard. Production duties are being handled by French outfits CG Cinema and Tribus P Films, while the co-producers are Arte France Cinéma, Germany’s Detail Film, and Belgium’s Scope Pictures and Wrong Men, as well as Japan’s Eurospace.
