The story, adapted by the director from Akira Yoshimura’s novel of the same name, is set in the 16th century, in a remote fishing village nestled between the sea and the mountains. In the absence of his father, and encouraged by his mother, ten-year-old Alan becomes the man of the house and is thus let in on the secrets of his village of wreckers. One night, a boat runs aground on the beach...

Produced by Fabrice Préel-Cléach and Emmanuelle Latourrette for Paris-based outfit Offshore and by Belgian firm HélicotroncFires in the Dark has secured backing from the CNC’s advance on receipts and from the regional authorities in Corsica (where the shoot took place from 15 April-25 May, with Pascale Marin on board as DoP). The feature will be distributed in France by Sophie Dulac Distribution and will be sold abroad by Versatile.
