If you happen to have a film, TV, transmedia or even literary project in the pipeline, you still have time to apply to take part with it in the 2019 CIIF Market – Canary Islands International Film Market, which will take place in Santa Cruz de Tenerife from 8-12 October. The deadline for (free) advance registration is this Sunday 15 September. Out of all the projects sent in, ten audiovisual ones and four literary ones will be selected to take part in activities intended to support and guide them in their production. All you need to do is send in the required documents via the market’s website, be it for a documentary, a fiction feature, a TV movie or a series, including transmedia, cross-media and multi-platform projects. They must all be unreleased or unpublished, be in the development phase and be in search of funding.

With the ultimate aim of providing a boost to the projects selected at this Tenerife-based market – which is not just European, but also has a global reach – the 2019 edition of the CIIF will invite a plethora of representatives of the audiovisual industry, ranging from TV channels to producers and sales agents, among many other specialists in the sector. The 16th edition will also accept literary works by authors born or resident in the Canary Islands that have the potential to be adapted for any kind of screen, big or small.

The 2019 CIIF Market will hand out five awards in order to foster the development of the winning audiovisual productions: the CIIF Market Award for the project with the greatest international scope, worth €1,200, which must be used to attend an international market of the producer’s choosing; the Canarias Cultura en Red Award for the best project from the Canary Islands, which will reward the winner with a travel grant to attend a market related to the sector and/or one with an international scope; the FilmMarket Hub Award, which consists of one year’s free registration to this platform, which will facilitate access to the most important production companies in the audiovisual sector as well as funds in search of projects; the Macaronesia Films Award, bestowed upon the project with the most international potential, which will receive financial and legal consultancy services regarding tax incentives in the Canary Islands; and the Music Library & SFX Award, the winning project of which will be granted a flat fee limited to one free production, which will allow synchronisation of the production music from the Music Library & SFX catalogues for the entire content of the project.

It’s worth noting that the market has established itself as a quality meeting point for professionals, as well as a real driving force in terms of production. More than 30 films, benefiting from an investment of some €65 million, began their journeys here and stand as a testament to this initiative that, over its last few calls, has brought together more than 100 companies, 170 professionals and 70 projects.
