Stockholm-born helmer Anna Zackrisson will start filming a new Nordic TV series in February 2020. The project, entitled Snow Angels, follows her recent outings directing the Swedish television dramas Vår tid är nu (2018-2019) and Piratskattens hemlighet (2014).

The six-episode crime-drama, penned by Mette Heeno (the TV series Splitting Up Together, Happy Ending [+see also:

) and commissioned by public broadcasters DR and SVT, is set the night before Christmas Eve, as Sweden is paralysed by heavy snowstorms. Meanwhile, five-week-old baby Lukas inexplicably disappears from his home in a Stockholm suburb, and his young parents are in shock. Veteran police officer Alice believes that something is not quite right with their stories and becomes obsessed with the case. Moreover, other people become suspicious of Lukas’ mother, Jenni, who took sleeping pills that night and doesn’t remember a thing, a nurse who had expressed concerns about the baby's safety, and Jenni’s own mother, Kajsa.

Anna Croneman, SVT’s head of drama, described the series as “a very fine example of Nordic cooperation” and is hopeful about further cooperation efforts among Nordic pubcasters: “If public service companies can be the best partners for the best Nordic talents, then we have a chance to play a decisive role for the audience in the future, despite the unimaginable international competition.”

Snow Angels is being produced by Mie Andreasen for Denmark’s Happy Ending Film & TV and Georgie Mathew for Sweden’s Yellow Bird. The global distribution outside the Nordic countries has been entrusted to Copenhagen-based firm REinvent Studios. The series is set to premiere in spring 2021.
