The aim of Dot.on.the.map Industry Days is to invite producers, directors and scriptwriters from the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea as well as from all three continents – Europe, Asia and Africa – neighbouring Cyprus in order to meet and network with international film professionals attending the forum. The intention is to create a platform for artistic and financial collaborations which will serve as a future hub for the wider region, and help to develop both the local and the international film industry.

Danae Stylianou, the head of the industry event, commented: “We’re very excited to be serving as a hub where film projects and filmmakers can meet with international industry professionals on our small island. We’re proud to be setting up an event that puts a focus on the countries of the Mediterranean Basin, and encourages co-productions, film development and distribution. The name of the event, “Dot.on.the.map”, was chosen because even if Cyprus is just a small dot on the map, we believe it can make a big difference in terms of bringing together members of the creative film community and experts from the international cinema scene, while putting Mediterranean talent in the spotlight.”

Dot.on.the.map Industry Days is launching with two sections, Meeting Point and Cinema Talks. Meeting Point serves as the international co-production forum where the filmmakers will have a chance to pitch their projects and find the right future partners. Six hand-picked feature-length fiction projects, which are currently in development, will be selected. The presentations of the projects will be made by their producers in a series of pre-arranged one-on-one meetings with industry professionals, including producers, distributors, representatives of festivals and funds, development experts and broadcasters, mainly from Central and Eastern Europe. Furthermore, an international jury will pick the winners of the section.

The call for submissions for Meeting Point has been launched today and will run for one month, closing on 16 February 2020. Eligible projects are those that originate from countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, and which are being made by directors working on their first, second or third feature film. The platform’s other section is the Dot.on.the.map Cinema Talks, a programme of master classes, open discussions, seminars and workshops that will be given by the attending industry professionals. The schedule will be announced shortly before the festival.

Dot.on.the.map Industry Days is organised by the Cyprus Film Days International Festival, the Cyprus Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth and the Rialto Theatre, in partnership with the Thessaloniki International Film Festival’s Agora.
