CO-DISTRIBUTION IT / UK

Bilateral agreement signed

by

A film co-distribution deal between Italy and Britain has been signed in Rome. The agreement was formalised yesterday by the UK Secretary of State, Tessa Jowell, and the Italian Ministry of Culture, Giuliano Urbani. The aim is to support the distribution of Italian films in the UK and vice versa, in an attempt to "protect and spread national culture outside it’s domestic boundaries", as Urbani explained.

"So the challenge we intend to face up to – continued the minister – is to promote national cultures, increasing competitiveness". For Urbani, "co-distribution is, without a shadow of doubt, the strategy that will enable improved collaboration between public film institutions. This bilateral measure allows for the recognition of a specific reciprocal approach and a more conscious protection of cultural diversity".
