The heart of Dutch cinema

The 23rd edition of the Netherlands Film Festival, started yesterday in Utrecht and will be continuing until October 3. At the opening ceremony the Belgium actor Jan Decleir was given the Golden Kalf 2003 for his support of Dutch cinema. The festival has also announced the winner of the €5,000 prize from the city of Utrecht: Jiska Rickels for the documentary Untertage.

The jury is made up of the producers Chris Brouwer and Michiel de Rooij, the editor René Wiegmans and the directors Nouchka van Brakel, Fatima Jebli-Ouazzani, Noshka van der Lely and Ron Termaat, and they will be awarding the Golden Kalf for the Best Dutch Film.
Some of the highlights of the 100s of films on offer are Volle Maan by Johan Bijenhuis, Als twee druppels water by Fons Rademakers, Adrenaline by Roel Reiné, Twin Sisters by Ben Sombogaart, Van God Los by Pieter Kuijpers, Interview by Theo Van Gogh and Alexandra's Projects by Rolf de Heer. There is also a wide selection of documentaries, including Ford Transit by Hany Abu-Assad, De grens in mijn hart by Rob Hof, The show must go on by Hans Heijnen, Alles komt ergens van by Pieter Verhoeff, Dans, Brozny Dans by Jos de Putter and Campus Vught by Sarah Vos.
