France’s current ban on events held in enclosed spaces with more than 5,000 people in attendance, linked to the spread of the coronavirus, and the soaring number of cancellations have meant that the organisers of the 57th MipTv, the world’s biggest audiovisual content market, have been forced to cancel the 2020 edition, which had been due to unspool from 30 March-2 April. Last year, 9,500 international professionals took part in the gathering, the next edition of which will therefore take place in 2021 (12-15 April).

Meanwhile, the third edition of the Canneséries Festival, which was planned to take place from 27 March-1 April, has been pushed back until later in the year and will now be held from 9-14 October, in parallel with MipCom (12-15 October).

For the time being, the Séries Mania Festival, scheduled to happen in Lille from 20-28 March, is still slated to go ahead, as the capacity of the venues where the event will be held and the planned visitor numbers are lower than the 5,000-people threshold that would have led to a ban. However, the current situation is obviously dependent on how rapidly the coronavirus spreads in France in the days and weeks to come.
