Wortmann hangs up his camera

by

Sönke Wortmann, one of the most popular German directors, has decided that he won’t be directing any more films after The Miracle of Bern, which had its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival, where it won the Public Prize.
This success of this latest, and now it seems last, film by 44 year old Wortmann, is added to the hits he has already enjoyed with Little Sharks (1992) and especially Most Desired Man, based on the cult gay comic by Ralf König, which registered an audience of 6.5m in Germany and was one of the biggest hits of the post war period.

The Miracle of Bern took four years to make and the director has been considering making the film for more than 15 years: "I’ve been an author, a director and a producer – said Wortmann in a recent interview with the Munich paper "tz" – and this film marks the achievement of my life’s dream and I consider it to be the climax of my career. I hope the public love it as much as I did". The director has said that he wants to spend more time with his family, but he doesn’t rule out the possibility of working as a producer for young debutants. The Miracle of Bern is produced by Little Shark in collaboration with Seven Pictures Film. It will be distributed in Germany by Bavaria Film International, and will be released on October 16.
