BBC4 and European cinema

As part of its support of BBC4, the BBC’s flagship cultural channel will be promoting Cinedays on its website and TV channel, and will be broadcasting the TV premiere of two 2001 European box office hits: Laurent Cantet’s L’emploi du temps (“Time Out”) and the German film by Oliver Hirschbiegel, The Experiment.
As a strong supporter of world cinema and key buyer of European films in the UK, BBC4 teamed up with the independent distributor Optimum Releasing and the Edinburgh International Film Festival last February to launch the Discoveries strand. The annual programme showcases six new international films from around the world, first in the cinemas through Optimum Releasing and then on BBC4 under the distinct Discoveries banner.
