FESTIVALS Spain

Valladolid hosts Belgium showcase

by

The upcoming edition of the Valladolid International Film Festival (Spain) will be shining the spotlight on Belgium cinema. The event starts on October 24 and goes on until November 1, 2003. Last year the section dedicated to the productions of a specific country concentrated on Poland and this year it’s Belgium’s turn due to the interest being shown for its films. The Valladolid Festival showcase has been put together with three Belgium institutions, Vlaams Audiovisueel Fonds, the film and audiovisual centre from the Comunità Wallonie-Bruxelles and the General Commission of International Relations . The section is called Between surrealism and hyperrealism and it will contain a retrospective of Belgium, Francophone and Dutch films, including Monsieur Fantomas by Ernest Moerman (1937) and La Fidélité des Images made by the painter René Magritte. There’s also an exhibition dedicated to the surrealist painter.
One of the most important parts of the festival will be a series of meetings for producers, called the Co-production Meetings, being held on October 25 and 26. This will be an opportunity for Spanish producers to meet their Belgium counterparts to analyse the various European, national, federal and regional funding systems, as well as being an opportunity to discuss and develop projects and collaboration agreements.
