The Biennale College Cinema – Virtual Reality workshop draws to a close

It was a question of virtual reality in virtual form at the 5th edition of Biennale College Cinema – Virtual Reality International event, which opened on 12 January and closed yesterday, 19 January, and which unspooled entirely online on account of the pandemic. Held via the Raum platform, the workshop saw the staff of the Biennale College – Cinema programme link up remotely with 12 teams selected from Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, France, Germany, Great Britain, Israel, Italy, the Czech Republic, Romania and Turkey.

Three projects will be singled out from this group, with the overall winner set for presentation at the Venice VR Expanded section of the 78th Venice International Film Festival (1 – 11 September 2021).

Organised by the Venice Biennale and directed by Alberto Barbera (artistic director of the Venice Film Festival) with Savina Neirotti appointed as Head of Programme, the Biennale College Cinema – Virtual Reality project enjoys significant funding from the European Commission’s Creative MEDIA Europe programme (DG Connect). Training activities will also be financed by the MEDIA programme, over and above the backing the programme has provided for the development of Venice Production Bridge. The project further enjoys the support of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and for Tourism - DG Film and is sponsored by Pegaso Online University. Last but not least, Biennale College – Cinema also benefits from academic assistance from The Gotham Film & Media Institute, New York and TorinoFilmLab.
