Cinema and training in Munich

Cinedays will give the culture department of the Munich city council (Kulturreferat der Landeshaupstadt München) another opportunity to continue their mission of bridging the gap between young people and cinema which was inaugurated last spring with the convention “Cinema is a school” ("Kino macht Schule") organized by the Central Department for Education and Training (Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung) and the FFA(Filmförderungsanstalt).

This event was followed by the creation of a “cinema guide” ("Filmkanon") developed by various illustrious names of the cinema industry, whose intent is to provide a basic cinema education through the study of 35 films. Screenings have been organised to publicise European cinema among the young, each one will be introduced by a cinema expert. The initiative starts on 20th October with The Fifth Element by Luc Besson, accompanied by a discussion about special effects in modern cinema and the post-modern vision of the future; followed on 21st October by a screening of Aki Kaurismäki’s The man without a past [+see also:

accompanied by a discussion on the influence of Brecht’s theatre on film and the concept of social solidarity, and a screening for Spanish teachers and students of Pedro Almodovar’s All about my mother which stars Penelope Cruz, a “Cinedays” testimonial on the same day; while a screening of the documentary Essere e avere by Nicholas Philibert will be introduced by the documentary maker Heiner Stadler on 22nd October, and Ernst Lubitsch’s classic 1942, anti-Nazi film To be or not to be will be screened on 23rd October. A free, drama for film class for teachers has been organised for 24th October.
