The Community of Madrid recently launched CulturaMadrid, a website for audiovisual content that provides viewers with offerings related to the performing arts, dance, film, music and fine arts. The initiative is open to all and is already bursting with more than 100 pieces of content. Furthermore, every week, it will host an exclusive premiere. This platform, which can be used free of charge, includes interviews with artists of the likes of Joan Fontcuberta, José Luis Alexanco, Concha Jerez, Ana Laura Aláez and Guillermo Pérez Villalta, as well as reports on major exhibitions hosted by theatres and museums managed by the Community of Madrid, such as the CA2M Dos de Mayo Arts Centre, Canal de Isabel II and Alcalá 31.

The performing arts enjoy a significant presence on CulturaMadrid, including some small nuggets of theatre – in conjunction with the Actors’ and Actresses’s Union – starring some outstanding names in the field, such as Antonia San Juan (famous for her role as Agrado in Pedro Almodóvar’s All About My Mother), Ginés García Millán, Manuela Velasco, Aitana Sánchez Gijón (who recently also became an “Almodóvar girl” in Paralell Mothers [+see also:

) and Joaquín Notario, who bring to life famous literary and theatrical texts, ranging from Lope de Vega to José Saramago.

Film really stands out on this platform thanks to a catalogue of more than 60 shorts, made with the support of the Community of Madrid, and spanning all sorts of genres: from the Goya winners Cabezas habladoras, a documentary directed by Juan Vicente Córdoba in 2017, and Una caja de botones, a fiction title by María Reyes Arias, to Juan and the Cloud, an animation by Giovanni Maccelli. Besides this, audiences will also get the opportunity to enjoy a number of short films that have scooped prizes at festivals, such as those helmed by the Alenda brothers (To Kill a Child, Not the End, Inertial Love), Fernando Franco (La media vuelta), Zoe Berriatúa (La cosa en la esquina), Arantxa Aguirre (Juan y Teresa), Coke Riobóo (Made in Spain), David Moreno (Nini), Juan Gautier (El aspirante) and many more.

CulturaMadrid was launched with El baile de la vida, produced by La Caña Brothers and made in late November 2020, in which the Prado Museum’s Las Musas and El Bosco halls served as the settings for carefully choreographed performances, thus providing a grand finale for its bicentennial celebrations. María Pagés, Carmen Werner, Mónica Runde and Inés Narváez Arróspide, Dani Pannullo, Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich, Chevi Muraday, Blanca Li, Daniel Abreu and Antonio Ruz were the people performing the dance pieces that the audience can enjoy in this documentary.

In addition, on Thursdays, CulturaMadrid will broadcast various premieres, standing out among which are the stage play Paloma negra by Alberto Conejero, the documentary Miradas Flamenkas, and several musical and dance numbers that took part in the most recent editions of the Suma Flamenca Festival and the FIAS International Sacred Art Festival, such as Moisés P. Sánchez, Piazzola x 100 and Pepe Rivero Plays Lecuona.
