Details of the plot to the sequel are being kept under wraps for now. The 2011 British science-fiction classic saw predatory aliens invade a council estate in South London on 5 November, Guy Fawkes Night. Humanity has to rely on a teenage street gang to fend off the attackers and protect planet Earth. It was the breakthrough film for John Boyega, now best known for his leading role in the recent Star Wars sequels The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and Rise of the Skywalker.

Boyega recently earned a Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice Award for his performance in Steve McQueen’s anthology film series Small Axe for BBC/Amazon Prime. He says, “It’s been a decade since Attack the Block was released, and so much has changed since then. I’m excited to see this heightened story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favourite characters to play, and bringing him back is a huge honour.”

Prior to its release, Attack the Block received the Audience Award at both SXSW and the Los Angeles Film Festival, and instantly became a favourite of fans and critics alike. British filmmaker Joe Cornish will once again be sitting in the director’s chair.

Cornish comments, “I’m thrilled we’re officially announcing our return to the world of Attack the Block on the tenth anniversary of the film’s release. I can’t wait to work alongside John again, bringing audiences an even bigger slice of inner-city alien action.”

Attack the Block 2 will be produced by Nira Park and Joe Cornish through British firm Complete Fiction Pictures, the production company recently formed by Park, Cornish and filmmaker Edgar Wright. Boyega will also produce through the UK’s UpperRoom Productions, while StudioCanal and Film4 are on board as producing partners.
