“Fiesta” in Brussels

The long-awaited Festival of Spanish and South American Cinema will take place from 6th to 25 November at Flagey, and the Vendôme cinema of Brussels. Given the success of last year’s festival, director Josè Luis Escudero and his company, Intercommunication, decided to extend the duration this year, the 11th edition, by a week. 75 films will be presented in 11 sections, offering a broad look at the countries represented and the diversity of their talent. Screenings include: You’ll be back (2002) by Antonio Chavarrìas, Don Quixote, Knight Errant (2002) by Manuel Gutierrèz Aragòn, Inheritance (2001) by the Argentine director Paula Hernandez, Un titán en el ring (2002) by the Ecuadorian directorViviana Corsero and a documentary by Julio Medem, La pelota vasca: la piel contra la pietra (2003). Numerous personalities from Hispanic cinema will take part in the festival, such as the actors Antonia San Juan, Cuca Escribano and Julián Villagrán and the directors Carlos Rendón and Fernando Sariñana.
The event will be accompanied by exhibitions, conferences and concerts, including the much awaited performance of , on 15th November at Flagey.
A new element this year is the “European/Latin American/Caribbean Film and Audiovisual industry market”, organised through the European Union’s AI-Invest - Pro-Invest programmes, which will gather together around one hundred people from the film industry. Part of the festival programme will be presented at the Cinema Forum in Namur from 7th to 9th November.
