Ruiz heads up Rotterdam

by

The 33rd edition of the Rotterdam Festival, taking place between January 21 and February 1, 2004, is dedicating a large part of the "Filmmaker in Focus" section to Raoul Ruiz. According to Simon Field, the co-director of the event "Raoul Ruiz, with his infinite imagination, has always been a model director for Rotterdam". The tribute to Ruiz will include a wide selection of his films, from Chilean productions to more recent films made in France, like Ce jour-là, which was presented at the last Cannes Festival.

The other two themed sections of the festival will be "Homefront USA" and "Power: Play". In the first there will be works by American filmmakers who portray the current reality in the United States. The films include Elephant by Gus Van Sant, Bright Leaves by Ross McElwee and Parallel Lines by Nina Davenport.

In the "Power: Play" section there will be installations, films and events with works by artists who have used their imagination combined with information technology to develop their critical instincts.
Other films selected for the event include Uzak by Nuri Bilge Ceylan and Gori Vatra by Pjer Zalica, two works that have been supported by the festival’s Hubert Bals fund.
