, has taken Norwegian box office by storm and is set to become one of Norway’s biggest hits of the year.

Released on October 10 by UIP on 68 prints, the film had the strongest opening for a local film, with 72,004 admissions and it passed the 174,000 threshold last weekend, beating another local success The Woman of My Life, released one week earlier.
Directed by Eva Isaksen, Mors Elling is based on Ingvar Ambjørnsen’s character Elling who suffers from a mental illness, played for the third time by Per Christian Ellefsen: first on stage, then in the 2001 box office hit Elling directed by Petter Næss (over 800,000 admissions in Norway) and now in Mors Elling. The film is the second to be produced by Dag Alveberg’s Maipo Film & TV Production, and the company has a third film in development (Love Me Tomorrow).
