Sea of Silence in cinemas

From today Belgium cinemas will be showing Sea of Silence, the eagerly awaited film by Stijn Coninx (Koko Flanel, Daens). The screenplay is written by Jacqueline Epskamp, and the film follows the life of Caro, a 9-year-old girl, who we see on the eve of man landing on the moon, as he is forced to live in hellish conditions because of his alcoholic father. Alongside the young Neeltje de Vree, the cast includes performances by Huub Stapel, Johanna ter Steege, Anneke Blok and Dirk Roofthooft, while the photography is by Walther Vanden Ende, who has already worked on No Man’s Land and Farinelli.
Sea of Silence was filmed between May and July 2002 in Belgium and Holland and is produced by the Belgium Sophimages , in collaboration with the Dutch Isabella Films, the German Lichtblick Film and the Danish Zentropa Entertainments 5 Aps. It is being distributed by Warner Bros. The film will be presenting Belgium in the nominations competing for the shortlist of the final five films up for the 2004 Oscar as Best Foreign Film.
