A new Danish comedy is in the works. The project, titled Viktor vs The World, is being directed by Christian Arhoff, an alumnus of the National Film School of Denmark. His graduation short, Viktor on the Moon, won the Award for Best Comedy at the Palm Springs Short Film Fest in 2020 and will serve as the narrative basis for his debut feature.

In detail, the film promises to be “a warm comedy about a young man who meets the world, life and love for the first time” as well as “a coming-of-age movie about identity, responsibility, freedom and the longing to belong to someone”.

), who has lived with his mother his whole life and is afraid of everything. He is disconnected from reality, living his life through old Danish films. When his mother dies, Viktor is left to fend for himself. He finds out that his father, Charlie (Nicolas Bro), is still alive, and he decides to visit him in Copenhagen. Viktor thinks his father is a jazz musician, but Charlie turns out to be an insurer in an ailing insurance company. Viktor has a huge talent for insurance owing to his mother’s great fears, and Charlie tries to use his son to save the company. At the same time, Viktor meets Josefine (Anna Bruus Christensen), an unfortunate employee whose life has been a series of mishaps. He has to choose between playing the role that his father wants him to and setting himself free.

Other key cast members are Rosalinde Mynster, Bodil Jørgensen, Kurt Ravn, Thomas W Gabrielsson and Mikael Berthelsen.

Viktor vs The World is being produced by Daniel Mühlendorph and Robin Hounisen for Danish outfit Hyæne Film, with backing from the Danish Film Institute’s New Danish Screen scheme. The domestic premiere, to be handled by Nordisk Film, is slated for 4 May 2023.
