27 Times Cinema will be back in Venice for its 13th edition

This year will mark the 13th anniversary of the 27 Times Cinema project, which welcomes 27 young cinephiles from all EU countries to the Lido during the Venice International Film Festival. The initiative is a joint effort organised by the Giornate degli Autori, the European Parliament's LUX Audience Award and Europa Cinemas, in collaboration with Cineuropa.

The aim of the project remains the same: gathering European film lovers, all aged 18 to 25, to constitute the only official jury for the Giornate degli Autori (Venice’s parallel sidebar), in charge of assigning the GdA Director's Award, which carries a cash prize of €20,000 to be split between the director and the distributor of the winning film. The jury's deliberations will be moderated once again by Karel Och, Artistic Director of the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, who has been serving as a tutor for the Giornate jury since the award was first instituted 9 years ago. On this occasion, the jury president will be the French filmmaker Céline Sciamma (read the news), director of acclaimed titles such as Petite Maman [+see also:

. This will be the second year in a row that a woman heads the GdA jury, after the duo composed of Mina Mileva and Vesela Kazakova in 2021.

During their stay at the Lido, from 31 August to 10 September, the 27 Times Cinema participants will report on the films and events they attend through articles and interviews that will be published on Cineuropa's 27 Times Cinema blog. After the festival, these young jurors will take on the role of ambassadors for the LUX Audience Award, contributing as influencers and promoting the nominated titles (to be unveiled during the European Film Awards) both on social media and in their respective cinemas back home (all part of the Europa Cinemas network).
