German director Aron Lehmann is enjoying rather a prolific period at the moment. While his new comedy Jagdsaison (lit. “Hunting Season”) has just been released in cinemas, his next feature is already waiting to head to the big screen. What You Can See From Here [+see also:

, which Lehmann adapted from the bestseller by Mariana Leky, is planned to be released in January 2023. The novel was published in 2017 and garnered huge acclaim internationally. It has been translated into 14 languages and has sold over 600,000 copies in Germany alone. The director wrote the script for the film himself. The movie is in post-production at the moment, after the shoot took place in the summer and autumn of 2021 in the German province of Hessen.

The drama unfolds in a remote village, and the protagonist is a middle-aged woman, Selma, who has a special gift: she can foresee death. Each time an okapi appears in her dreams, a person in the village dies in the days that follow. Selma lives together with her granddaughter Luise, who has been hiding herself away since the untimely death of her childhood friend. It's only when a Buddhist monk comes to the village that she finds a way out of her grief and gives the power of love a chance. The film is also a portrait of rural life, a village and its unusual inhabitants.

The two main roles are played by German star Corinna Harfouch (The Girl with the Golden Hands, Mostly Minimalistic [+see also:

). Wedler has been strengthening her career in the last few years, having mostly appeared in German productions. She has already worked with director Lehmann on his Berlin-based love story The Most Beautiful Girl in the World [+see also:

), who plays one of the main roles in Lehmann's aforementioned film Jagdsaison.

The movie is a co-production between Claussen+Putz Filmproduktion and StudioCanal Film, in collaboration with German TV channel ARD. StudioCanal Germany is in charge of the picture’s distribution.
