A few days ago, the shoot wrapped in Madrid for Alimañas, the first film written and directed by actor Jordi Sánchez (a well-known face from various series and comedies, seen recently in Hollyblood) and screenwriter Pep Antón Gómez (Excuses!). “Shooting this feature has been a gift, a pleasure, a delight. We have made the film we wanted to make, and with the people we wanted to make it with. We’re delighted, grateful, over the moon… Let’s go and make the next one!” declared the overexcited pair of filmmakers.

The movie is a black comedy for all audiences, revolving around two very different brothers, Carlos and Paco, played by Carlos Areces (who appeared recently in El cuarto pasajero [+see also:

) and Jordi Sánchez himself. The siblings are united in their wish to inherit a building owned by their elderly mother – a house in which they have both invested all their hopes of improving their dire financial situation. The cast is rounded off by Loles León and Silvia Abril (both of whom were glimpsed recently in Padre no hay más que uno 3 [+see also:

) and Pilar Bergés, with a special guest appearance by Antonio Resines.

Jordi Sánchez and Pep Antón Gómez have been working together as screenwriters and playwrights for more than 25 years, and among their standout collaborations are the hits Hoy no cenamos, El eunuco, Mitad y mitad and ¡Mamáaaa!. In the directors’ own words: “If there’s one thing that’s been our hallmark since we started writing together, it’s having nurtured, and enjoyed, the process of coming up with stories hinging on despicable, mediocre, run-of-the-mill, little characters, which is what most of us are. They are black comedies that can sometimes be tender, sometimes dramatic and at other times hilarious. That’s why we are delighted to have taken a step towards film with Alimañas, one of those stories that’s just so ‘us’. And with a top-notch cast and crew as well, who have been so vital in bringing it to fruition.”

Produced by Feelgood Media (Juana Macías, Juan Moreno and Guillermo Sempere), Kowalski Films (Koldo Zuazua), Sábado Películas (Toni Carrizosa) and Alimañas AIE, in conjunction with Sony Pictures International Productions, the film sees the involvement of RTVE and Movistar Plus+, is being funded by the Community of Madrid and the Ministry of Culture – ICAA, and will hit Spanish screens courtesy of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
