Amiguet’s comeback

by

Au sud des nuages was released in cinema on October 29 and it marks Jean-François Amiguet’s comeback to the big screen. He first became known in 1987 with Lounge Chair, the second part of his trilogy about emotional insecurity started with Alexandre (1982) and finished with L’ecrivain public (1992).

After travelling in France, Crete, Tunisia and Romania to shoot his films, Jean-François Amiguet went to Russia, Mongolia and China to film Au sud des nuages. It’s a rail-movie about a group of old friends who decide to leave their Swiss village and travel on the Trans Siberian express towards China. But only Adrien will make it to the end of the journey. This main character, a sort of lone wolf, is being played by the French actor Bernard Verley.

Apart from Swiss co-production (with a minority share) by Raul Ruiz, Ce jour-là, Au sud des nuages is the only Swiss film to be presented at an international competition this year, namely the Locarno festival, where it won the 2nd Prize of the Youth Jury from the Tessin Department of Education, Culture and Sport. The film has also been awarded by the Zurich Film Commission and was presented at the 27th edition of the Montréal World Film Festival and the 37th Hof International Cinema Days (Germany) as well as the 8th International Film Festival in Pusan (South Korea).
