More than 40 first works are on the programme for the 18th edition of Entre Vues, the Belfort international festival, in Eastern France. The event started on Saturday and will be continuing its mixed programme of first, second or third feature films, shorts and documentaries until November 29, 2003.

There are 12 feature length films being shown in competition, which last year saw victory for the German film School Trip by Henner Winckler (2002 Grand Prize for Best Foreign Film). Award winners from previous editions include Nicolas Philibert, Patricia Mazuy, Pascale Ferran, Sandrine Veysset, Laurent Cantet, Jean-Paul Civeyrac (awarded twice) and Claire Simon.

by Michelangelo Frammartino.

16 feature length films and 16 documentaries have been chosen, out of the 700 works sent in, to take part in the other competitive sections at Entre Vues, giving a true flavour of world production. For this edition, the festival’s organisers have paid particular attention to Austrian and German cinematography. There are tributes to Barbet Schroeder (with a complete retrospective) and to the actress Stéphane Audran. There will also be a series of workshops for schools on the theme of metamorphosis, run in collaboration with the educational department of the French Film Archive.
