In the occasion of the 52nd edition of the International Film Festival, in Mannheim-Heidelberg (Germany), which closed its doors on November 29, the Dutch production entitled Des arm van Jezus (The arm of Jesus) won the Fipresci Prize awarded by five international critics. The jury emphasized the rich visual and intellectual representation as well as the protagonists’ humourous and musical existential quest. Directed by André van der Hout, the film narrates the realization of the American dream by an emigrant Dutch miner in the United States through his son Hendrik’s eyes. Twenty years later Hendrik will return to Rotterdam to seek his missing father as well as his own roots. The cast includes Ferry Heijine, Frank van den Bops e Huug van Tienhoven. The film was produced by Riba Filmproduktion.
