Three Belgian films

by

An extraordinary occurrence this Wednesday: the release of three Belgian films.
Nous/Autres by Giovanni Cioni, written by Nedjma Had, proposes a personal and sensitive vision of a group of refugees, who have experienced persecution, the loss of their families, misery, and exile. Survivors who have managed to build themselves a new life in Brussels. Having competed in the latest Namur Festival, this full-length debut by this cineast was produced by Iota Production and is distributed by Cinélibre. It will premier in the presence of the film crew at Flagey (Brussels).
The real surprise came with the originality of Eugène Green’s Le monde vivant, presented at Cannes 2003. Narrating the adventures of a courageous man, a valiant knight, two young women, two children, and a evil ogre, this is a medieval tale, garnished with modern costumes, that somehow seems to toggle back and forth between Bresson and Monty Python. The film, which was co-produced with France and distributed by the Belgian Royal Cinetheque, will be presented tomorrow at Flagey by Eugène Green and Luc Dardenne.
After walking away from EuropaCinema with “Best Documentary”, now even Dirk Szuszies’s Resist will also be released. A poetic-political homage to all those who think we need another world. The film is more specifically linked to the Living Theatre which, beginning in the 1960’s, rebelled against all forms of violence. Produced by YC Alligator Film (Eric Van Beuren) Triangle 7, and RTBF, 10 copies have been distributed by Libération film.
