André S. Labarthe in Liege

The first edition of the Rencontres Cinématographiques de Liège (RCL) will open today and conclude on December 6 at the Palace of Congress. Organized by the ASBL Arteplum as part of an exchange with the Cinematographic Meetings in Cannes, the RCL aim a the development of cultural, economic, and social image of Liege among young people. As part of Vallonia 2003, The Year of Simenon in Liegi, these Meetings will pay homage to the novelist who was also the President of the Jury at the 1960 Cannes Festival. The theme of this first edition will be “Writing at the cinema”.
Many atelier are being planned for young people and held by cinema professionals, like Laurent Delmas (editor- in-chief of “Synopsis”) and Gérard Camy and Daniel Rocchia (Meetings in Cannes). But the real event will be the arrival of André S. Labarthe who will present a series of documents on great directors, from Hitchcock to Lynch. Other features include Anything Else by Woody Allen, Kitchen Stories by Bent Hamer, Pas sur la bouche by Alain Resnais, Zatoichi by Takeshi Kitano, and Springtime in a small town by Tian Zhuangzhuan, as well as numerous adaptations of Simenon’s works, like L’orologiaio di Saint Paul by Bertrand Tavernier and Bettyby Claude Chabrol.
