The story follows Nic, a devoted youth worker who crosses paths with Elijah, a troubled teenager with a rare talent for basketball. Determined to steer the boy away from a self-destructive path, Nic takes him under his wing – crossing professional and personal boundaries in the process. When he secretly invites Elijah to move in with him, the decision generates a transformative bond that challenges Nic’s sense of identity and compassion.
Sekersöz directs from a script penned by Wiktor Ericsson, whilst Gabriel Mkrttchian serves as the cinematographer and Sofia Lindgren handles the editing. The cast includes Peshang Rad, Rudwan Socdal, Jason “Timbuktu” Diakité and Sandra Stojiljkovic.
The film is being produced by Sandra Harms and Helen Ahlsson for Nordic Drama Queens, one of Sweden’s most dynamic production outfits, known for championing strong female-led stories and diverse voices. The project marks another collaboration between Harms and Sekersöz, following their work on Beyond Dreams (2017), which earned critical acclaim at festivals including Göteborg and Busan.
Shot primarily in Sweden, Will You Care If I Die? is currently in post-production, with expected delivery slated for Q3 2026. The dialogue is mostly in Swedish, with portions in English.
Exploring themes of mentorship, masculinity and empathy, Sekersöz’s latest feature promises to be a heartfelt reflection on how connection can heal – or break – those people who risk everything to make a difference.
Will You Care if I Die? is being co-produced with SVT, Film i Väst, Film i Skåne and Nordisk Film, in collaboration with DR and RÚV, with backing from the Swedish Film Institute and the Nordisk Film & TV Fond. TrustNordisk is selling it worldwide, whilst Nordisk Film is in charge of its local distribution.
