Best figures in 9 years

With a 49% market-share in October, local films are enjoying record admissions, the best results in nine years when Swedish films took 49,3% of all admissions in February 1995.

Three Swedish films were the most popular of all films at the box office last October, beating the American blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: the Curse of the Black Pearl and the British hit, Calendar Girls. With 426,028 admissions, Evil by Mikael Håfström, released by Columbia Tri Star, took 25% of all admissions, followed by Sonet Film’s The Third Wave by Anders Nilsson and Sandrew Metronome’s Small Sussie, which both won a 9% market share.

Thanks to October’s excellent figures, the market share for Swedish films in 2003 has increased by 3% compared to the same period last year, reaching 21% of the total admissions (14.1 million). According to the Swedish Film Institute’s statistical department, the most popular Swedish films of the year (until the end of October) are Kops (775,198 admissions), Evil (608,904), Miffo (430,526) and The Third Wave (154,194).
