His most recent productions made for his company, Maipo Film are Jonny Vang and Mother Elling, which is now the most successful Norwegian film of the year at the local box office and number 6 in the 2003 Top 10 films, with 364,618 admissions.

Three other prestigious prizes were also awarded at the Oslo Plaza. The director of Kitchen Stories, Bent Hamer was given the Arne Skouen Prize. This award has been running since 1991 and is given to a local personality who during the year has played a key role in Norwegian film culture. The Nkr 150,000 cash prize is sponsored by the NFI, Kodak Norway and Nordisk Film Post-production.

The Nkr 25,000 Edith Carlmar Prize –in memory of the first Norwegian female director- was awarded this year to the production outfit, Motlys Film. The company has been celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and is perhaps most well known for its quality documentaries (currently in the making is Too Much Norway, which will celebrate Norway’s 100th anniversary). However, the company also produced major feature films such as Nils Gaup’s Misery Harbour and Marius Holst’ s Dragonflies.

Finally, the Nkr 25,000 Kodak Prize for the Best Cinematographer of the year went to who worked on Kitchen Stories, Jonny Vang, Aberdeen and The Telegraphist.
