by

The Dutch children’s film, Pietje Bell 2 : De jacht op de Tsarenkroon, which was released in domestic cinemas on December 18, has had a remarkable success. In just one week on release it has recorded an audience of more than 100,000 and today it has gone over the 230,000. The film has had an increase of 10% in audiences for the same period for the first episode. In fact, during its first weekend on release, Pietje Bell 2 was seen by more than 45,000 people, taking €227,000. This is an excellent result, especially compared with the performance of other Dutch films. During the Christmas weekend Minoes took just over €158,000, while Pipo le clown just €207,000. Pietje Bell 2 is aimed at family audiences and so it wasn’t really affected by the competition from films like Lord of the Rings – The Return of the King. Directed by Maria Peters and produced by Shooting Star FilmCompany, this enjoyable comedy is about the new adventures of the small and intrepid young boy from Rotterdam. Pietje Bell 2 has been released in 122 cinemas in the Netherlands.
