Omagh’s explosion of UK nominations

Omagh the Irish drama about the terrorist bomb attack which struck the Northern Ireland town of Omagh on 15 August 1998, continues to be celebrated at international film and TV awards. Directed by Peter Travis and co-written by Paul Greengrass (Bloody Sunday [+see also:

) and Guy Hibbert, the film is competing tonight 15 March at the Royal Television Society Awards in London in three categories for Best Single Drama, Best actor (Gerry McSorley) and Best screenplay. The film has also just been nominated for a TV BAFTA Award in the Best Single Drama category and results will be announced at the ceremony on 17 April.
These nominations come on the back of several previous awards including Best screenplay at the last San Sebastian Film Festival and the Discovery Award at the 2004 Toronto International Film Festival.

The Hells Kitchen International/Tiger Aspect Production for Channel Four was produced by Ed Guiney and Paul Greengrass, executive produced by Andrew Lowe, Arthur Lappin and Greg Brenman and co-financed by Irish national broadcaster RTE and the Irish Film Board.
Commenting on the BAFTA nomination, producer Ed Guiney said: “We are delighted that this film has been recognized by BAFTA in particular because it acknowledges and will heighten awareness of the struggle of the families in bringing the perpetrators of the bomb at Omagh to justice”.
The film is sold internationally by Portman Film and will be released in the cinemas later this month in France and Belgium and in April in Spain.
