Yesterday night the traditional ceremony for the Jean Gabin Prize and the Romy Schneider Prize took place in the lounge of the Fouquet’s. This year, these prizes dedicated to young actors respectively went to Clovis Cornillac and Cécile de France. The former is the winner of this year’s Cesar award as Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in Mensonges et trahisons et plus si affinités... by Laurent Tirard. Clovis Cornillac has indeed had a very busy year 2004, for besides the above-mentioned film, he appeared in five other films including A Very Long Engagement by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Malabar Princess by Gilles Legrand, and La femme de Gilles [+see also:

It is also worth pointing out that this actor, born in 1967 and whose mother is the actress Myriam Boyer, had already been nominated twice at the Cesar Awards before this year’s victory (in 2004, as Best Actor in a Supporting Role in A la petite semaine and in 2000 as shooting-star for Karnaval).

As far as the Belgian actress Cécile de France is concerned, her career is going very well, as shows the fact that she was chosen as the host for this year’s Cannes Film Festival as well as her roles in Cédric Klapisch’s latest work (Les Poupées russes) and in Danièle Thompson’s (Fauteuils d’orchestre).
The Jean Gabin and the Romy Schneider prizes, created by journalists (the former in 1981, the latter in 1984) have been granted to many great actors over the years, such as for instance François Cluzet, Thierry Lhermitte, Tcheky Kario, Mathieu Kassovitz, Benoît Pelvoorde, José Garcia, Juliette Binoche, Vanessa Paradis, Isabelle Carré, Ludivine Sagnier, and Laura Smet.
