37 year old British actor Daniel Craig is hotly tipped to be the next James Bond according to rumors in yesterday’s UK press. Craig is a talented and versatile actor whose film career took off in 1998 with the role of painter Francis Bacon’s lover in John Maybury’s Love Is The Devil. He was praised for his parts in Roger Michell’s films The Mother (2003) and Enduring Love (2004), and also appeared in Sam Mendes’ Road To Perdition, Ted Hughes’ Sylvia [+see also:

Craig would be the sixth official James Bond after Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Dalton, Roger Moore, George Lazenby and Sean Connery. According to the UK tabloid newspaper The Sun, the actor is said to be in negotiations with the production company Eon Production to star in three James Bond films including the next one: Casino Royale.
The 21st Bond film will be a new adaptation of James Bond’s creator Ian Fleming’s first novel, already made into 1967’s classic film with David Niven. The new Casino Royale scripted by Bond specialists Neal Purvis and Robert wade, will be directed by Martin Campbell, the director who helped reinvigorate the Bond franchise with Goldeneye filmed in 1995. Campbell will start shooting Casino Royale after he finishes working on The Legend of Zorro.
