Gernandt and Weeber become pacific 'Island Guests'

by

Young Dutch actors Tygo Gernandt and Egbert Jan Weeber, who previously co-starred in the ultra violent Van God los (Godforsaken), will star in the more pacific feature adaptation of the novel Eilandgasten (Island guests) by Dutch writer Vonne van der Meer.

Eilandgasten tells the separate but interconnected stories of the consecutive inhabitants of a holiday bungalow on one of the Dutch Isles during a summer season. It is not yet clear whether Weeber and Gernandt will star in the same segment or in separate storylines. Eilandgasten will be helmed by Algerian-born director Karim Traïdia, who previously directed De Poolse bruid (The Polish bride) for which he was awarded the Dutch Golden Calf for Best director. The adaptation has been written by Jan Veldman. The cast is completed by Johnny de Mol, Eva Duijvestein, Caro Lenssen, Jaap Spijkers and Carine Crutzen.

Filming is scheduled to start soon on the actual island that was the setting of the original novel: Vlieland. Eilandgasten is a production of Telefilm 2005 (composed by public dutch television, the co-BO Fund, NRCV and idTV). A-film Distribution will released the film. The producers eye a distribution date this autumn and could film the two remaining books of the Island trilogy if Eilandgasten is a success.
