FESTIVALS Netherlands

A very NICE Italian film festival in Amsterdam

by

New Italian cinema is about to reach Amsterdam for the NICE (for New Italian Cinema Events). This itinerant festival, directed by Viviana del Bianco and organised with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute in the Netherlands, will take place at the Filmmuseum from the 21st to the 27th of April. Not only does it present seven first or second films, but it also presents their authors.

The films, selected by a committee presided by Mario Sesti and including Linda Blackaby, Barbara Corsi, Lella Scalia, and Lina Wertmüller, are Fate come noi by Francesco Apolloni, Evilenko by David Grieco, Il vestito da sposa by Fiorella Infascelli, L’amore di Màrja by Anne Ritta Ciccone, A/R – Andata e ritorno by Marco Ponti, Fame chimica by Paolo Vari and Antonio Bocola, and Il fuggiasco by Andrea Manni (who won the ‘City of Florence’ Prize at the latest NICE festival, in the USA).

For all these ‘new directors’ —as was the case with their predecessors, Gaglianone, Ferrario, Calopresti, Salvatores, Muccino...— NICE, attended by local distributors, is a great showroom for the international market, for it allows them to promote their works in person.
