27/06/2002 - La Rochelle celebrates its 30th birthday with retrospectives dedicated to Tati, Sirk and Rosi & Special Guest, Juliette Binoche

On its 30th birthday, the La Rochelle International Film Festival has undergone a little facelift and acquired a new artistic director, b>Prune Engler. The festival, that will run from June 28 until July 8, is one of France's most important non-competitive film events and this edition will premiere a number of major European films including German Hannes Stöhr's Berlin is in Germany and Belgian b>Chantal Ackerman's . The programme includes a number of films that premiered in Cannes, like Atom Egoyan's Ararat by Atom Egoyan and Jacques Nolot's La chatte à deux tête as well as retrospectives dedicated to Jacques Tati, Douglas Sirk and animated features director, Karel Zeman.
This year's featured artists are Italy's Francesco Rosi, France's Thierry Knauff and Senegal's Abderrahmane Sissako as well as China's Ying Ning. French-Canadian actress Juliette Binoche will also be an honoured guest.
