55 M€ for Kassovitz and Babylon Babies
Announced two years ago, the project Babylon Babies [+see also:
film profile] by Mathieu Kassovitz is finally firming up with shooting set to begin in March. Produced by Alain Goldman for Légende, in co-production with MNP Entreprise (the director’s company+) and no doubt with M6, the film will have a 55 million euros budget thanks to two deals with Fox who have the rights for the US, the UK and Asia, and with Studio Canal who will look after the rest of Europe. Worth noting that the producer and filmmaker have already had a successful partnership with Les Rivières Pourpres (3,2 millions spectators in France). Initially planned for six months, shooting will start in Montreal (where Kassovitz shot Gothika) and then in Central Europe.
Written by the novelist Maurice G. Dantec, Babylon Babies follows the adventures of the mercenary hero from La Sirène Rouge (adapted for the screen in 2002 by Olivier Megaton with Jean-Marc Barr in the principal role). Charged with the task of taking a woman across North America on behalf of the military mafia in Eastern Europe, the main character will find himself at the heart of a mafia war for a new bio-tech market, a genetic traffic at international level. It will be the sixth feature by Mathieu Kassovitz, with a script written by the director himself and Eric Besnard. The casting starts for this highly-anticipated techno-thriller, with, no doubt, Jamel Debbouze in the frame
