Alan Parker stays on
- The English director will stay on for a further two years as head of the public agency
Britain´s minister for film, Kim Howells announced that Alan Parker will stay on for a further two years as head of the Film Council. The director of films like Angela´s Ashes and Mississippi Burning will thus be able to supervise a general reorganisation of the Film Council and indeed, Britain´s entire film industry.
In his acceptance speech, Parker said he was delighted with the performance of films like Robert Altman´s Gosford Park and Gurinder Chada´s Bend it like Beckham. He reaffirmed the Film Council´s intention to encourage and support international co-productions and British film production in general.
